Raising the Roof! Busting out the Top!

My grand engineering plans!
You can tell that I am more excited about building the fun stuff to play with than the actual engineering of the roof structure... LOL  Maybe that speaks more of my distract-ability than anything else.

Moving on... A trip to Lowe's with my "master plan," the purchase of an 18"x72" board (that they cut in half for me - love those guys in blue aprons) and a 8' 2'x2' board... I knew I was well on my way to grand visions when this was staring back at me in my garage...

See that glass door... it shattered during the uninstallment.

X Marks the spot

Safety first!

We have now busted through the roof that area will become a bathroom that leads to a loft
My Grand Vision: The big "TV" area will become a grand room Kitchen/Dining Room with pull out extension for a living room space.  The area below the roof peak will become a loft with disco light and the "components" area will become a bedroom and low ceiling bathroom.I also utilized our old keyboard  drawer.  We weren't using it anymore because we have laptops now.  I got the idea from another blog.
The roof is installed and even Tokie is happy with the progress!

Upcycling an Entertainment Center

After viewing this blog, Green Your Decor Blog and the hot pink cheetah kitchen featured in Better After Blog example of the stunning kiddie kitchen made out of an unwanted entertainment center.  My wheels started to spin...  My 6 & 8 year old girlies are a little too old for me to start breaking out the paint for a kiddie kitchen and we already have one of the plastic kitchens collecting dust.  What else can I do like this?  I decided to make a doll house for their new American Girl dolls, Julie and Molly.  I searched high and low on Pinterest and Google University and it appears as if not too many people have tried this approach.  I found one computer desk that was repurposed,  http://dolldiaries.com/diy-doll-house-made-from-computer-armoire , of which fed my fascination and gave me hope that it was possible.

Being a young 35, I never purchased the 80's-90's era entertainment center for our own TV... so I began my search on craigslist.  Early in the week, I told him my plans to repurpose an entertainment center for the girls and he looked at me a little crazy.  I don't think he thought I was serious because I had no ability to get such a beast home.  The stars aligned when I found this gem on craigslist, in my own subdivision and the original owner was willing to drop it off!!!   and the story begins...

Isn't she a gem?
You should have seen my Keith's face when he came home and found her parked in the garage!
